Some Voices raises over £4,000 for The Trussell Trust
December 2022 saw Some Voices performing Choir Actually, our take on the Love Actually soundtrack, around the country in our first Christmas performances since 2019. With sold out gigs, joyful audiences and happy tears all round, it was a wonderful time of the year but also a time to remember those less fortunate.
Some Voices members nominated The Trussell Trust as our chosen charity for Winter Term 22 and fundraised with a quiz, bespoke poster sale and by appealing to our audiences to donate, resulting in an incredible £4,455 raised for the charity.
The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks, and together they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty – currently over 14 million including 4.5 million children. They have provided 1.3 million emergency food parcels in the last 6 months – more than ever before. The Trust also campaigns for real change to end the need for food banks in this country and help food banks to provide practical support to tackle the root causes of poverty.
The charity responded with this message:
“Thank you all for the kind donations in support of the Trussell Trust. This year has been a really tough one for households on low incomes. Social security cuts are hitting hard at the same time the cost of living is increasing dramatically.
But your kindness makes all the difference and helps us to reach more people than ever in their time of need. Your generosity will help get urgent support to individuals and families facing impossible decisions this winter and will help us to push for change that will prevent more people facing those decisions in the future.
Thank you again to everyone at Some Voices for your kindness and generosity.” Supporter Care Team, The Trussell Trust
The Some Voices team echoes this thanks to everyone who donated and helped to raise such a fantastic amount for this important cause. Particular thanks to Sunnie Newby at Studio A design for the wonderful bespoke art prints. and to Steve Mulley, Katy Star and artist Jane Mutiny for organising another wonderful quiz.
