Some Voices is “the UK’s most exciting non-audition pop choir” (BBC) and we’re all about having fun singing together.

Everyone is welcome, whether or not you have sung before. Join us to learn fantastic arrangements of songs you love and be part of a friendly community making music and sharing unforgettable experiences. No auditions, no need to read music, no pressure - just fun!

Our terms run from January to April, May to August and September to December, but you can join at any time in the term if there are spaces available.

Josh has been in London for 4 years, running the Pop-Up Choir in South London, and singing in London Contemporary Voices. He recently enjoyed touring as a backing vocalist with Tom Odell, and has previously performed with Keane, Orlando Weeks, Elena Tonra, and Alev Lenz. For Josh, singing is all about fun, community, and connecting with others - he can’t wait to assemble a Finsbury Park crew!

SOME VOICES SHOREDITCH CHOIR

Some Voices Shoreditch rehearsals are held at
St Matthew's Church

Sessions are every Monday from 7pm-8.30pm.

Each term is 10 weeks long and costs £110. Winter Term starts 16 September 2024.

Travel: 10-15 minute walk from Liverpool Street Station (suitable for wheelchair users) Shoreditch High Street (suitable for wheelchair users) overground or Bethnal Green tube. The number 8, 388 and D3 buses stop on Bethnal Green road 2 minutes walk from the church and are step-free vehicles.

VENUE ENTRY:  The main front gate of the church will be locked. Walk to the right hand side of the church (as you face it) where there is a gate to enter.

Accessibility: The main space is fully wheelchair accessible. Toilet is not currently accessible.

YOUR LEADER

A 5th generation Londoner with Nigerian heritage, Joy Nkoyo is a composer, musician, vocalist, BBC Proms pundit, and podcaster. She has been commissioned by the British Music Collection, Spitalfields Music Festival, and Sound and Music, with her music being performed in prestigious UK venues such as King’s Place and Lyric Hammersmith.

Joy has also received acclaim for her songwriting and music production, with nominations for the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition and Youth Music Awards, as well as a residency at The Roundhouse. 

I’m really excited to be leading the Shoreditch choir in September! Everyone I’ve met so far at Some Voices has been so welcoming and friendly, I feel like I’m joining the coolest tribe. I can’t wait to experience the magic of being part of a choir.

Jade Williams

Alice has run multiple choirs and communal singing workshops around London and Kent. She has worked as a musician on cruise ships and in hotels around the world and now has several residencies playing the piano and singing in London bars and venues, which she frequently turns into a mass singalong!

James is a singer and musician from Portsmouth - now living in Woolwich! He studied Music Technology at university, but he has been involved in singing and leading choirs since he was 14; currently he’s helping write and record a new musical!
James enjoys sharing his love of music with everyone that he comes across; and encouraging people into their best and most confident selves!

YOUR LEADER: LUKE SAYDON

Luke is an award-winning composer, musical director and theatre practitioner from Malta, now based in London. Luke has been a Some Voices leader since 2019 and works with organisations including The Old Vic, the Museum of London and the British Library; taking theatre and music to communities and audiences around the country and the globe. Luke has musical directed for Chickenshed Theatre Company, Wyllyotts Theatre, V&A Museum and has most recently launched Saydon Studio, an exciting new venture producing music and theatre projects for communities.

Lauren is a vocalist, vocal director and creative facilitator. Originally from Northern Ireland, Lauren has made a home in Hackney, London where she works as a freelance Musician. She thrives when performing onstage, leading groups of voices and inspiring communities through the power of song and creative music making.  She has worked alongside Laura, Curtis and the Some Voices team since 2012 and is super excited to be leading the Dalston choir!

Travel: Woolwich Arsenal National Rail and DLR station is a few minutes walk away. The site is served directly by RB1 River Bus services to Woolwich Royal Arsenal pier. Bus routes: 51, 96, 122, 161, 177, 180 and 244 stop nearby.

LOCAL RESIDENTS BURSARY

Woolwich Works will offer a limited number of bursaries to residents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich who’d like to join the choir but can’t afford to pay the full fee. If you’d like to apply for a bursary, please email choir@woolwich.works giving details of your name, address and circumstances and they’ll try to help. Bursaries will be prioritised towards those claiming Universal Credit but anyone who needs the support is welcome to apply. Only applies to Woolwich choir.
