🎶 INTENSIVE REHEARSAL NOTES 🎶

CRAZY IN LOVE

~ The Riff’s - oh no no (1st and 3rd same note, 2nd and 4th alternating note)

~ The lyrics of that second verse

~ Soprano be ready to come in with Got me Looking in BRIDGE

~ Watch timing on the oh oh section, make sure it's not speeding up

~ Try and sing through your verses a few times before your show so you're really comfortable with them

BLINDING LIGHTS

~ Super focus on leader when S and A1 start

~ Dynamic oooh’s as much as possible

~ All the “hey’s” have notes on them. Careful they don’t become just shouty.

JOLENE

~ Fast section Chorus 1 - remember the extra oh before “please don’t take him just because you can”

~ Pay attention to when the Main Choir joins in the fast section. Leader will point for main chorus.

~ SC - tenors and sops careful to not fall behind in the fast breakdown

CREEP

~ Dynamics, dynamics, dynamics

~ S1 Bridge oh high part - only Semi Chorus S1s singing this super high note. Main Choir stick with S2

~ For clarity - we’re all singing “you’re so fuckin’ special"

~ Let’s go for a softer Chorus 3 at the end

~ Build the volume on each "run, run, run"

RIHANNA

~ Transition from Diamonds to Only Girls (A2’s come off early to go straight in to la la la)

~ Sops have tune in 'Only Girl In The World" so rest of choir bring down volume

SIMPLY THE BEST

~ Oh oh, Oh oh - dynamics of these first oh oh’s

PINK PONY CLUB

~ Really watch Leader for when we’re getting faster in the PreChorus 3

~ We are not doing the HOTTOGO moves on stage. But by all means vibe to the music!

HEAVEN

~ Perfect!

FREED FROM DESIRE

~ Keep the na na na section clean and rhythmic

LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER

~ Be careful of this being too shouty

~ Altos remember that Oh that comes out of the instrumental. Don’t let it catch you by surprise

~ Watch your volume on the pre-chorus - you need somewhere to go for the chorus!

YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE

~ Remember the breakdown, when we singing “young hearts” - STOP - “run free"

~ Build energy and excitement during each woah

🎶 INTENSIVE REHEARSAL NOTES 🎶

From Choir Leader Luke:

Hi everyone, thank you for all the energy on Saturday. Bringing the joy, bringing the energy, bringing the voices. We have a great gig on our hands! Thanks for all your work. Please find some tips following to remember as we head into show week.

GENERAL TIPS
Dynamics ! The strength of the music is going to come through with all the colouring we’ve into the music. When you have swelling ah’s and oh’s and ooh’s, ensure they start from a gentle place and they grow.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
~
It’s your opening. Come in with all the energy, but careful of shouting. So many of the oh’s and ah’s are accompanying a melody line, so be sure you’re not over pushing on them.
~ Having said that it’s Mariah obviously. So have lots of fun.

CAROL OF THE DISCO BELLS
~ Ensure you look at the musical director for the quiet section, because there’s no rhythm to keep you on track. I will be marking the time for you and mouthing words for you, some extra attention in that section.
~ Think about the diction for this song. Lost of words but no rush.
~ S and A1 remember your last HEREE YEAAAH YEAH- that last YEAH is a bit later than most of us think.

JOYFUL JOYFUL
~ Remember we’re joining on the last 11 "Fill Us”, together with the last line. Semi Chorus will be singing all this too.

HOLIDAYS
~ This just needs to have its excitement back in. It has lots of looping for many voice parts, keep them exciting all through. It’s the middle of the show, so really think of this as the energizer for the next half.

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE
~
Same as Holidays - lots of looping there, make every single loop more fresh than the one before. Careful of shouting here.

ANGELS
~ Such a powerful song. You sing this so beautifully. Ensure dynamics are strong here.

LAST CHRISTMAS
~ Listen to that outro for some more security with it - but brilliant song.

STAY ANOTHER DAY
~ Think about the outros and later verses - ensure that when everyone is singing something different every part comes in with confidence.

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK
~ Remember that Semi Chorus are singing some accompanying ooh’s and ah’s - so don’t let this throw you off.
~ Tenors - remember to start that opening with some gentleness.
~ Remember that there’ s that extra wait before Chorus 3 starts.
~ The ending of this goes a bit slower - ensure that you’re looking at me to slow down together.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST…
Have a great time! What a special thing that we all get to sing together like this. Be kind to one another during the gig, be patient for us, but please sing a storm. You’ve worked hard to get here - so enjoy with all your hearts x

✨ WHAT TO WEAR! ✨

For our end of term performances, we like to set the mood and create unity within the choir with what we wear! Please see the colour palette and inspiration on our mood board below.

We are suggesting you go for a black AND white base (not JUST black or JUST white) with an accessory or two from a decade that is in a bright colour that ‘pops’ against the base colour. Aim for stand out accessories. (And bear in mind - shoes or anything worn at the back of your head won’t be seen!)

🖼️ ARTWORK 🖼️

We’ve created some artwork you can use to promote the show to friends, family, colleagues and your cat!

Please find an A4 poster and a ‘watch me sing in’ social media post below.

To download an image, right click and select ‘Save Image As…’ (desktop) or ‘Save in Photos’ (mobile).

Suggested wording:

Prepare to travel through time with me and my choir as we spin the decks across the decades to the present day!

There’ll be a battle of the ballads as we sing hits from Beyonce, Radiohead, Tina Turner, DJ Sammy, Chappel Roan and more.

Expect high-energy harmonies, all in Some Voices signature style!

Let’s spread the word and fill those seats!

Our upcoming shows are going to be epic, and we need your help to make sure your local community knows about them! A quick and easy way to do this is by posting in your local Facebook groups—like community noticeboards, events pages, or “What’s On” groups. You might also know of some Instagram pages that do the same job shouting about local events:

Here’s how:
1. Go to your chosen Facebook group, or search for your local one
2. Write a short, friendly message—something like:
“Hey everyone! Just a heads up that my choir, Some Voices, is coming to [LOCATION] on [DATE]! If you love live music, harmonies, and a feel-good night out, come along! Grab your tickets here: [TICKET LINK]”
3. Attach the social graphic or poster we’ve provided, or any other video from our socials

Feel free to share on your own Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or even drop the details into WhatsApp groups—wherever your local community connects. A simple post can make a huge difference, so let’s get our voices heard before we even step on stage!

❤️ CHARITY ❤️

Each term we support a charity to fundraise for at our gigs. This term we'll be fundraising for Furnishing Futures.

Furnishing Futures create trauma-informed healing homes for women and children who have escaped domestic abuse and been placed in empty social housing. They work with families to decide how their homes are decorated – something that’s incredibly important when your choices have been taken away from you in so many ways.

From sofas to saucers, pictures to pans, they furnish homes with everything a family needs to be safe and comfortable – all at no cost to the people they support.

Donations can be made via our JustGiving page. Thank you.

GIG ETIQUETTE
Some Voices shows are full of heightened emotions and we want you all to feel that post-gig buzz for weeks afterwards, so here’s a quick reminder of ways we can make sure everybody leaves the show feeling good vibes only.

• Gig = party and we want you all to have a brilliant time, but just make sure you’re not getting too carried away before the show even starts. Everyone should feel safe and comfortable while they’re on stage, so anyone who looks like they’ve started the party a bit too early may be asked not to perform.

• Be conscious that everyone has different boundaries when it comes to personal space. You may want to hug the whole world after a show, but always make sure you’re being considerate of how others feel and check with them first.

• You’re feeling like a rock star, but the person next to you could be terrified. Please always be supportive and encouraging to all of your fellow singers and look after each other. The better you all feel on stage, the better you’ll all look and sound!

• For more info about our rules of engagement see our Some Voices Membership Policy.

And perhaps most importantly… have fun!!

Laura, Curtis and the Some Voices team x
