Choir without the boring bits
GENERAL FAQ'S
Q: WHAT IS SOME VOICES AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Some Voices is a non-audition choir, made up of nearly 1000 members, we normally meet weekly to rehearse at 14 locations across London and at our new location in Newcastle. Since the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020 we have been unable to rehearse and perform in person. We have produced online rehearsals and performances that you can view on our YouTube channel.
Q: HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
Head to the Sing With Us page. Then you just need to create and account and pay. Simple as that.
Once you've paid your membership fee, you’ll receive an email receipt and soon after you will receive an email with your password for the members page.
If you have any questions not answered in our FAQs just pop us an email at sing@somevoices.co.uk
Q: DO I NEED PREVIOUS SINGING EXPERIENCE?
Not at all! We’re a non-audition choir and everyone is welcome. Whether you've been singing for years or fancy trying something new.
We learn everything by ear and believe that this offers the most accessible and enjoyable experience for everyone, while making our rehearsals fun and informal. There's no sheet music to worry about and you'll get links to audio support in your membership emails to help you practice.
Q: WHY ARE YOU CHARGING WHEN WE CAN’T REHEARSE TOGETHER?
Getting together and rehearsing is usually a huge part of what Some Voices is all about, but whilst we can’t do that, we want to offer members other ways to connect. There is still a lot of work going on to create your virtual experience and at a time when creative professionals are struggling, we want to support as many of our usual team members as possible. Your fees will go towards creating original arrangements of songs that you love, the recording and editing of supporting video content, sharing information via email, social media and the website, creating other opportunities to hang out virtually, administrative costs and helping Some Voices to keep planning and responding to the changing circumstances that we’re all enduring.
Q: IF EVERYONE CAN ACCESS THE YOUTUBE REHEARSALS WHY SHOULD I PAY?
The online rehearsals are bitesized, edited versions of our Some Voices arrangements that give people a good introduction to each song. Members will get access to audio / visual resources that teach vocal techniques to perform the entire song. The benefits of becoming a member can be found on the Sing With Us page.
If this this isn’t for you, that is of course fine. You can still take part in the Wednesday YouTube broadcasts but you will not receive any of the membership benefits.
Q: AM I ELIGIBLE FOR A DISCOUNT?
We are offering discounts on an honesty basis to anyone who believes they fall into one or more of the categories below. We will not be asking you to prove your eligibility, we trust that individuals will pay in accordance with their means and circumstances.
- NHS Workers.
- Those whose income has been significantly affected by COVID-19.
Q: I DON’T LIVE IN THE UK, CAN I JOIN?
Yes, you can join however all fees are to paid in GBP Sterling and you are liable for any additional international transfer fees that our or your bank may incur. Some Voices is based in London and any additional live events which may take place (if social distancing measure are eased) will take place in London. If you miss YouTube broadcasts due to time differences they will be available online after the initial air time. Any live social activities will take place at times suited to members on British time.
Q: I PAID FOR SPRING TERM BUT DIDN’T GET MY END OF TERM GIG, CAN I GET A REFUND?
We understand that it’s disappointing that the Spring Term didn’t end how we had all planned. This situation was out of our control and we made efforts to create lots of opportunities for the Spring Term members to continue singing despite the difficult circumstances. That included creating original arrangements of songs, creating video content each week plus your end of term music video, employing choir leaders to offer Zoom rehearsals, and continuing to support our small team to handle membership administration and manage communications. If you have purchased tickets for Dream Machine, you can either claim a refund from DICE or keep your ticket which will be valid for a future show at the Clapham Grand. At this time, we can’t confirm when the next live gig will be performed.
Q: I need a choir for an event - who can I contact?
Please email events@somevoices.co.uk
MEMBER FAQ'S
Q: I CAN’T WATCH AT 7PM ON WEDNESDAYS, HOW LONG ARE THE REHEARSALS AVAILABLE FOR?
YouTube broadcasts will be available indefinitely after they first air.
Q: I AM NORMALLY PART OF A SPECIFIC CHOIR, DO I GET MEET UPS WITH THEM?
No, we will not be running additional choir rehearsals for specific locations. All members will join Some Virtual Voices and are considered one choir.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF THE LOCKDOWN IS LIFTED DURING THE SUMMER TERM?
Some Voices will be responding to the situation as it develops, however we plan to deliver the 10-week virtual term as stated in the membership package regardless of lockdown measures. If measures are eased and groups are allowed to meet then we will look at how we can sing together at the end of term. However this will not be a gig – there will not sufficient funds or notice for a full scale production, instead we would aim to bring as many of the Some Virtual Voices members together to sing in London in accordance with the social distancing rules at that time.
Q: I CAN'T LOG ON TO THE MEMBERS PAGE - HELP!
When you signed up to the new term you would have received an email from us with a password for the private Members Page. If you can't find this email don't worry - just drop us a line on sing@somevoices.co.uk. If you know the password and trying to log in on your mobile phone - don't forget to press 'return' after you have entered the password and before you press 'done'.
