Some Voices is opening its first international branch in Amsterdam later this month.
Some Voices is a non-traditional choir with a mission to be inclusive to all. There are no auditions to join, no need to read music, and adults of all ages and abilities are welcome. It with a small group of friends meeting to sing and socialise in London in 2010, but quickly grew and became renowned for their incredible vocal arrangements, high-energy performances and an eclectic repertoire that spans pop, soul, indie, disco, hip hop and more.
Some Voices now has over 1,500 members across 24 UK locations and has chosen Amsterdam for its first ever choir outside the UK.
The choir will be led by Amsterdam based singer and songwriter Fridolijn Van Poll, whose music has millions of Spotify streams and has performed on international stages like Billboard Live Tokyo, the Tabernacle London, and Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
"I think singing together is the most beautiful and fun thing in the world. It's something we as humans have been doing forever with every ceremony, ritual and in every tribe. It brings us together in a way nothing else does. I feel like we sometimes miss that connection in the fast and individual lives we live today. That's why I can't wait to start this choir, and have it be all about the joy and fun of making music together, and feeling a little more connected to others."
Fridolijn, Amsterdam Choir Leader
Choir member Sarah Hardcastle was one of the original members of Some Voices when it first began in London, she said:
“I'd just moved to London when I stumbled upon Some Voices and I was excited to find a group to sing with. What I loved about the choir was the originality of the arrangements, the song choices & the opportunity to sing with so many lovely people every week.
The best thing about being part of the choir was no matter what kind of week I was having I knew that those 90 minutes in rehearsal would always leave me buzzing - that's the power of singing with others.
I've been living in Amsterdam for 5 years, and I've missed Some Voices a lot. I've tried a few choirs in the city but I struggled to find one that fits the fun & cool vibe of SV - especially the song selection and the arrangements.
I'm looking forward to sharing that Some Voices buzz with my fellow singers in Amsterdam and building a community around our love of music.”
