Some Voices choir announce Shine Cancer Support as spring term charity

Some Voices Choir support Shine Cancer Chairty

Every term Some Voices ask choir members and leaders to nominate charities to support throughout the term’s activities. After several rounds of nominations and shortlisting, the now 800 strong choir have voted to fundraise for Shine Cancer Support.

The nomination was sent in by choir members Jess, Clare and Sean who sited Shine as a ‘life line’ having all being faced with a cancer diagnosis.
Shine’s approach to supporting young people with cancer does so through community events, information and activities. Sharing the same principle of bringing people together through shared experience, Some Voices are delighted to be working with Shine and championing their life-changing network.

Shine supports adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. Too old for children and teenage services but too young for traditional cancer support, they support the people who fall into a devastating cancer support gap.

Statically young adults with cancer experience higher rates of loneliness, depression and isolation than older patients, and their work and family lives are more likely to be affected.

Shine is working hard to ensure that every young adult with cancer in the UK can access the information, help and support networks in ways that suits them. Shine believe that young adults have spent enough time in hospital and with medical professionals, so run events in places where young people want to visit. In addition to 15 Shine Networks across England and Wales, Shine also run retreats, conferences and workshops aimed at helping people to get their lives back on track.

By choosing Shine, Some Voices hope to help support the 30,000 young adults diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year - including three Some Voices members who nominated this charity.

Nine years down the line, more than 1500 singers are now part of the exciting ensemble that performs on some of the biggest stages in London. KOKO, The Southbank Centre, Oval Space,The Rivoli Ballroom, The Grand Clapham, HERE and The Troxy have all seen the group attract audiences in their thousands
